A few weeks ago, I experienced a cramp-like feeling in my back and made the decision to seek chiropractic care. Upon my visit, the chiropractor began to chat with me about the importance of proper alignment and posture, including the appropriate ways to sit, stand and even move around.
As my treatments progressed, I found myself beginning to stand taller and even sit taller, to the point that I had to re-adjust the mirrors on my car to drive. My improper alignment was not only causing me pain throughout my body, but it was also making me physically minimize myself to be in a place that I felt was comfortable. Unbeknownst to me, this comfort was causing my problems. In fact, due to the misalignment of my body, it was as if my head weighed 66 lbs.… YIKES!!!

So what does this have to do with Christ?
The word says:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Well, firstly – apparently due to the misalignment of my posture, I have a REALLY heavy head…. 66lbs is a LOT to carry around all day everyday. And I was carrying it all because I was improperly aligned.
Our spines are a narrow column containing our nerves which control or impact every part of our bodies. When we do what is comfortable instead of what is correct, we cause our spines to constrict the nerves, blocking or inhibiting the proper function of our nerves.
On our Christian journeys, it is important that we stay in the correct posture to be in alignment with Christ. This posture in our faith means that we are positioning our hearts, minds, bodies and spirits to be aligned with God’s will!
How do we do this – through prayer and the giving of our entire selves unto Christ for His glory! Paul discusses this in the book of Romans:
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12: 1-2
Being in alignment with the Word of God does not always feel good, especially when we have spent so many years practicing improper posture. But as you can see from my story, improper posture not only leads to painful results, but also to us carrying more weight than we have too!
When we rely on God and make a consistent effort to change our ways to please Him, He begins relieve us of the weight that we carry and provide us with the supports to stand uprightly and walk in righteousness.
Overall, the pain and trauma of misalignment is not worth the risk when we can make the choice to be rehabilitated and placed in a position of that provides us with more benefits than we can imagine.
I encourage you today to take note of your posture both physically and spiritually and to work on becoming properly aligned with Christ!
